Intimate Getaways, Trader Magazine Tallpine Lodges is owned and operated by Ross Moncaster. Tallpine Lodges is an unabashedly romantic, 15-lodge couples-only retreat. It was the first Manitoba resort to cater exclusively to couples.
"Our lodges range from 280-700 square feet. All of them have full kitchens, king size or queen size beds, fireplace, gas barbecue, CD players, satellite television, private sauna, and a four-person freshwater Jacuzzi that the guests fill or empty at their preference. Two units have a heart-shaped two person Jacuzzi, but perhaps the most notable feature is the lack of phones in the units! The key thing here is privacy.
Another key issue is security. The resort is a gated property. All guest must check in at the office, at which time they are given an electronic device to operate the gate to get in and out. No visitors are allowed on the premises. "People come here to be by themselves," Moncaster sums up.
Tallpine Lodges is situated on a 5-acre, horseshoe shaped property on the eastern edge of Whiteshell Provincial Park. Heavy woods in the interior and exterior of the horseshoe ensure both privacy and gorgeous wilderness surroundings. For couples who manage to leave their love nest, dining is available at the nearby Landing Steakhouse [May-Thanksgiving] and the West Hawk Inn Dining Room [year-round]. Outdoor activities include hiking, cross-country skiing and wildlife watching. Winter bird feeders are situated on the property, and guests can often watch the antics of not only the birds, but deer and squirrels who show up for a bite to eat.
"We get lots of repeat business, "says Moncaster proudly. "People come here to get engaged and then come back on their anniversary and request the same lodge. We've seen all ages from honeymooners in their twenties to couples celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They leave us nice notes - "this is a good place to renew a relationship" or "we really appreciated the peace and tranquility".
Clientele: Couples only.
